Creator - Juni Ba

Juni Ba, born in 1992 in Senegal, is a Franco-Senegalese comic book artist and writer celebrated for his dynamic storytelling and vibrant art that seamlessly blend West African folklore with contemporary narratives. Growing up in Senegal, Ba was influenced by a diverse array of media, including European comics like “Spirou,” Japanese manga such as “Shaman King,” and animated series from Cartoon Network. This eclectic mix of cultural influences profoundly shaped his artistic vision.

His debut graphic novel, “Djeliya,” published by TKO Studios, reimagines traditional African tales in a post-apocalyptic setting. The story follows Prince Mansour and his storyteller, Awa, on a quest to confront a powerful wizard, weaving themes of heritage, responsibility, and redemption.

In addition to “Djeliya,” Ba created the anthology series “Monkey Meat,” which satirically explores themes of capitalism and exploitation through interconnected stories set in a fantastical world dominated by a corrupt corporation. His unique approach has garnered attention for its blend of humor, social commentary, and dynamic visuals.

In 2024, Ba expanded his repertoire by writing and illustrating “The Boy Wonder,” a DC Comics Black Label mini-series focusing on Damian Wayne. The series delves into themes of family and identity, showcasing Ba’s ability to reinterpret established characters through his unique lens.

Ba’s distinctive style is influenced by a diverse range of sources, including Mike Mignola’s “Hellboy,” the animated works of Genndy Tartakovsky, and West African design sensibilities. This eclectic mix contributes to his unique artistic voice, characterized by bold lines, expressive characters, and a seamless fusion of traditional and modern elements.
